11877 07/13/2016 General Health 160 /University Health Services was established with the following clear mandates:
1. To provide health care services: curative, preventive as well as rehabilitative services.
2. To advise on health matters generally to the university community.
In furtherance of these functions, university has set up outpatient department facilities for both students and staff (together with their dependants) in almost all campuses. The clinics are fully manned by qualified, competent, experienced human resource for health of all cadres. Several Medical Officers, Clinical Officers and Nurses form the bulk of primary health providers in all facilities.
Specialists in Internal Medicine, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Ear Nose & Throat are based at the centre to provide secondary care. Supported by an annual budget, University Health Services provides a healthcare system comparable only to a few in the country and the world.
A 24-hour free access to medical emergency care services to both outpatient care at University Health Services facilities and inpatient care at private hospitals without exclusions make University Health system unique in character, function and operation befitting a World Class University.
University Health Services has Chief Medical Officer as its Clinical and Administrative head. Chief Medical Officer, best as known as CMO, is supported by two deputies, one in charge of student health and the other in charge of staff health and administration.
University Health Services Management Committee chaired by the Chief Medical Officer consists of all Section Heads and Team Leaders including Nurse Coordinator and Pharmacist-in- charge, provides operational guidance to health services at the University.
