The College of Health Sciences is the leading tertiary healthcare training centre in Kenya created in 1985 and has its origin in the Faculty of Medicine which was established in 1967. It currently comprises five Schools, one Institute and one Centre. It is situated in Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Campus about four (4) kilometers from Nairobi Central Business District (NCBD). KNH serves as the Official Teaching Hospital for the University of Nairobi.
The mandate of the College is to train high caliber health-care professionals, offer specialized health-related services to the community, Conduct research, offer consultancy services and participate in health policy formulation.
The College has a highly qualified complement of staff and represents the highest concentration of healthcare trainers in the region. Most of the academic staff are specialists in their fields many being internationally recognized. This is one of the factors that make the College the preferred institution for training of undergraduate and postgraduate students in healthcare.
Numerous programmes in medicine, pharmacy, nursing, dentistry and public health are offered at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Within the region, the College has the highest output of graduates in masters’ degrees in health sciences. Detailed information of the programmes can be obtained from the relevant schools.
The College has adequate and modern facilities to execute its mandate. Among them is state of the art teaching and research facilities such as Nairobi Surgical Skills Centre, Multipurpose Skills laboratory, enhanced Level III laboratory and Telemedicine and Telepathology studios.
Our research portfolio is about Kenya shillings one billion per year. Activities span from basic to applied and operational research with strong platforms for clinical trials, traditional medicine, quality assurance of medicines, vaccine developments and Tropical and Infectious diseases.

Our continued creation of products of superior value through performance improvement, preponderance of innovative research activities and offering health-related services to the community; shall constitute the key to continuing success.
