According to Padma Purana, in the Kritha Yuga, a demon named Tripura having slayed the Devtas, and after dilapidating all the creations, remained secure in the city in the middle region between the heaven and the Earth due to the boon of the Brahma. Lord Rudra was appraised of the trouble being created by the devil to the Devtas. Lord Rudra strained his bow with an arrow and slayed the devil. Drops of perspiration fell down from the body of Rudra, who was tired with exertion. Several Rudraksha plants cropped up from drops of Rudra’s perspiration, fell on the Earth.
According to Padama Purana, a man obtains a lakh folds merit by seeing a Rudraksha bead, a crore folds merit by touching it and ten crores of merit by wearing on his body. By reciting hymns with the help of Rudraksha Rosary / Rudraksha Mala for thousands of times one gets spiritual value.
